Smales Farm Bus Station

The Transport Management Association (TMA) is a private, non-profit association established by Smales Farm Management to help tenants and visitors get to Smales Farm properties as quickly and efficiently as possible by providing an alternative to single-occupied vehicles.

The TMA initiative is currently undertaken only at Smales Farm Technology Office Park, where it provides assistance to ensure people can easily walk, cycle or scooter to the Park, or use public transport (Smales Farm Station, part of the Northern Busway, is located onsite) or ride-sharing.

The ultimate goal of the TMA at Smales Farm Technology Office Park is to reduce the number of vehicles with just one occupant coming to the site. The Northern Busway and its associated suburban routes that provide access to the Smales Farm Bus Station go a long way towards meeting this target.

On just one day per week if every car commuter uses an alternative form of transport, car usage will be reduced by as much as 20%.

Efficient alternative transport options

The TMA takes a number of measures and provides a variety of services for users that encourage more efficient use of public transport. These include incentives for tenants like the provision of cycle lockers, showers, and scooter parks. Other services may include:

  • Marketing, promotion and raising awareness
  • Commuter trip reduction programmes
  • Ride sharing schemes and incentives (e.g., preferential or cheaper parking)
  • Trip planning, promotion and incentives for using buses
  • Parking management
  • Advocating for public transport improvements (both infrastructure and services).
