Board of Directors
Smales Farm remains a private, family-owned and operated business. The Board of Directors, made up of Bill, Chris and Greg Smale, oversees operations and drives the Smales Farm vision of creating and maintaining "New Zealand's best place to work and do business."
Greg Smale, Director | |
![]() | Greg Smale has been in the Development and Business Director role since the inception of Smales Farm. He has been responsible for developing the Technology Park vision for the Smales Farm development, establishing the professional team and leading the negotiation of leases and construction contracts. Greg holds a valuation qualification from Auckland University and has 39 years’ experience covering residential, industrial and commercial property. Greg holds various directorships in privately held companies involved in the property investment and manufacturing sectors. Greg served for three years on the Massey University College of Business Advisory Board and retains his links with Massey University through the NZ Robotics Trust, which he chairs. The New Zealand Robotics Trust (KIWIBots) is focussed on developing the skills of Year 9+ students in science, computer studies and robotics throughout New Zealand through an annual competition that is contested internationally, with New Zealand winning a number of world titles.

![]() | William (Bill) Smale is a successful entrepreneur in the software, communications and fashion industries. He is currently a Director of Smales Farm, and of Nanacom Ltd. Bill is Development Director of Myoasis Ltd, a software development company that is growing strongly by specialising in online billing packages. Bill is also Development Director for Wireless Nation: this company delivers high-speed broadband to the rural sector and other hard-to-reach customers via satellite, as well as supplying ADSL and broadband via landlines, VoIP and other internet services. He is a founder and Director of Lex Men’s Fashion, a company that designs its clothing range in New Zealand, manufactures offshore, and sells mainly into Germany and Australia. Bill is also independent director to Virtuoso Tutoring Ltd, a company that has grown from the Young enterprise program and now employs more than 26 students on a regular basis and is growing rapidly. Bill is active as a mentor to the next generation of successful business people. He is instrumental in Smales Farm’s sponsorship of the Young Entrepreneur Scheme, which helps secondary school students form a company and produce goods or services to sell. Bill has personally mentored two of the last three regional award-winning teams. Some of the companies he has mentored have emerged from the shelter of the Young Entrepreneur Scheme to become successful companies in the open market. |
Chris Smale, Director | |
![]() | Chris Smale is one of the key strategists behind the development of Smales Farm. His roles at Smales Farm have included Director, an operational role as accountant, and Financial Controller. A qualified accountant, Chris Smale began his career at the Smale family-owned quarrying business. He moved on to become General Manager of Pupuke Service Station for five years, another family-owned company. Chris then became Financial Controller at Newmarket Nissan, a Marubeni Corporation (Japan) owned subsidiary, for 12 years. Smales Farm continues to reap the benefits of Chris’s enterprise experience in everything from the contestability of its finance, to its governance model and the unique level of personalised service offered by its property management company.Chris Smale holds nine directorships, spanning multiple industry sectors including manufacturing, design, property and services. |
